"Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi he toa takitini tēnei"
I te taha o tōku Papa
Ko Maunga Pōhatu te Maunga
Ko Tauranga te Awa
Ko Ngāi Tama Tuhirae te Hapū
Ko Tūhoe te Iwi
Ko Mātaatua te Waka
Ko Toroa te Tangata
Ko Hine Pukohurangi te Tipuna
Ko Tahu Pōtiki te Tupuna
I te taha o tōku Māmā
Ko Aoraki te Mauka
Ko Waitaki te Awa
Ko Kāti Huirapa te Hapū
Ko Kaitahu te Iwi
Ko Takitimu te Waka
Ko Tahu Pōtiki te Tupuna
Kalinia started her tutoring career at the ripe age of 7 years old. Her parents were Cultural Pioneers since the 1980’s, at a time when acceptance of Te Ao Māori was very low in the South Canterbury community. As more Māori pillars were raised up in our community, the momentum sustained her to continue to build into community groups, education providers and vulnerable whanau.
Whether delivering with Governance Boards, Principal’s across South Canterbury, Ngāi Tahu or a range of community groups it highlighted her deeply connected understanding of Matauranga Māori. Working alongside each group, fostering an open and safe environment, to weave in the valuable knowledge she holds.
Kalinia is driven by the potential for learning and collaboration in each room of people she works with. Kalinia has the ability to create safe spaces for the learners to address uncomfortable conversations.
The possibilities for all our mokopuna are endless and the responsibility and legacy placed on her by her parents and tupuna, to lead, tautoko, manaaki and challenge any obstacles to them reaching their full potential. Her strength is deeply entrenched in the mana of her whakapapa, so the only option that sits well within her is to continue to leave a legacy just as she has been left to carry it on.
