Gabrielle has a wide range of experience in the education sector from early childhood through to tertiary. She frequently works with clusters and networks of early learning services and schools to build networks and increase cross-setting collaboration. This includes aspects of facilitation, coaching, professional development and change management.

She is also currently involved in the Grow Waitaha programme (see www.growwaitaha,co.nz) where 150 schools across Greater Christchurch have partnered with Ministry of Education, Ngāi Tahu, and four providers over the last four years to explore future focussed pedagogy including student agency, collaborative teaching, flexible learning spaces, cultural narratives, authentic curriculum and diverse partnerships. This process includes individual coaching and mentoring of school leaders, facilitation of collaboration between schools to share innovation, and the curation of successful case studies to benefit the wider public sector.

Gabrielle has carried out extensive applied research in the areas of culturally responsive practice, organisational change, adaptive governance, collaborative teaching and learning, and the impact of physical design on student achievement and engagement. She has also been involved with numerous schools in supporting the development of their future visions for teaching and learning, and developing and implementing meaningful programmes of stakeholder engagement relating to this and other aspects of school change.

Gabrielle frequently designs and implements large scale change projects which include the collection and analysis of a range of qualitative and quantitative data sources. She was recently involved with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tūāhuriri on a two-year research partnership focusing on using teacher inquiry to increase Māori students’ use of culturally appropriate critical thinking skills. She has lectured across the education, psychology and management disciplines, and has presented her research both nationally and internationally.
