Empowering gender diverse ākonga in schools.

We are very proud of this project “Empowering gender diverse ākonga in schools’ that our Leadership Lab NZ team members Gabrielle Wall Jordan Mayes Tayla Taylor Ari Dewar and Rose Cook along with Grae Meek Lex Davis and Janelle Riki-Waaka have been developing as part of the Grow Waitaha Equity and Inclusion impact area focused on Empowering gender diverse ākonga in schools.

This group of precious young people have been described by some as ‘the sharp end of the sharp end of vulnerability’ and their voices reinforce the need for all of us to commit to being allies and creating safe and inclusive spaces for all. Leadership Lab NZ is committed to this kaupapa as it aligns with our core value of mana ōrite – equity for all and does this through amplifying marginalised voices for advocacy and to provoke system change.

There are two parts to this initiative;
1) A Recommendations resource -“Inclusion of Gender Diverse Ākonga: Recommendations for Schools”.

2) An Activation hui which 80 school leaders, teachers and Board members attended on October 20th 5-8pm “Empowering Gender Diverse Ākonga”.

We encourage you to take the time to read the report and we are creating a webinar based on this event to share with those from other places.

Our Leadership Lab NZ Rourou programme focusses on amplifying marginalised voices for advocacy and to provoke system change.  A wide range of initiatives are being created which all focus on this Kaupapa.
