Ko Ngāi Tūhoe, Ko Ngā Rauru nā iwi.
No Kōterana me Airani ōku tūpuna.
Ko Danette Abraham taku ingoa
Growing up, Danette experienced a distinct lack of exposure and connection to te Ao Māori, culture, and whakapapa. This was realised in her formative early teens, which fuelled her desire to learn about her culture. This has led to her determination to facilitate change and contribute to a different world for our mokopuna.
‘I now see my daughter intersecting and experiencing her cultural identities daily, this is what I never had and its exciting to watch’
With a background working in the Youth Sector, Danette has spent the better part of 34 years working in and supporting rangatahi, Youth Workers and Kaimahi at Te Ora Hou Ōtautahi. Danette has also had experience in the NGO, Education and Business sectors, enabling both personal and professional growth.
Passionate about identity and culture, Danette is a lifelong learner and pursuer of te reo me ona tikanga. Facilitator of conversations and experiences that help shape an equitable society where our mokopuna can grow. Cultural advocate, a Wāhine advocate, and a people and thought challenger. Enjoy the journey, which is not always focused on the destination.
Toi tū te Tiriti – the journey towards a genuine Tiriti-based future where mana motuhake and relationship create better outcomes. Shifting people’s perceptions of what it means to be Te Tiriti-based.
Danette is an experienced CliftonStrengths Coach and Supervisor who uses these opportunities to grow people personally and professionally.
