Judy Bruce

Dr Judy Bruce is an Education Consultant and Researcher based in Auckland. She is a consultant with the Leadership Lab, and Research Assoc at the University of Canterbury

Judy’s primary areas of education consultancy and research are in the areas of Innovation, Leadership Development and Cultural Capability. She has a particular passion for justice and equity and her consultancy and research work is mainly in the areas of diversity and inclusion.  

Previously, Judy worked as Senior Lecturer, University of Canterbury and Head of Learning and Development at Freeset, India. Judy is a registered teacher and has taught at Papanui High School, Wairoa College, and in Alternative Education. 

While at the University of Canterbury, Judy designed and delivered numerous degree level courses focussing on Diversity and Inclusion. Her PhD research explored the ways in which we can shape teacher education to raise critical consciousness. The aim of which is to create safe spaces for learners otherwise excluded. 

Judy has numerous research publications in youth development in education, dis/engagement in education, experiences of young people non-enrolled, and their whānau experiences, alternative education, service learning, and cultural capability for teachers.

Judy is interested in using her vast education and community development experience in a range of intercultural contexts, to engage with organisations facing persistent challenges. Judy loves to work collaboratively with organisations and communities to co-create new and innovative opportunities which enhance personal and collective growth, and move beyond “stuck places”.
