Nō Sāmoa toku whenua ko turangawaewae

Nō Saleaaumua ko Manono ko Safotu ko Mutiatele ngā iwi

Nō Ōtautahi ahau o Ōtautahi e noho nei au

Nō reira tēnā koutou katoa

Talofa lava everyone, my name is Mahlon Saumalu. I was proudly born and raised in Ōtautahi/Christchurch and I also proudly hail from the land of the beautiful Samoa!

My passion lies with people. I always try to focus my mahi around my Pasifika community and also young people. My full-time mahi is at VOYCE Whakarongo Mai,  advocating for our pēpī, tamariki and rangatahi in care across the motu and I love it! I also do a lot of music – weddings, functions, events, original music, festivals and that’s heaps of fun too!

My mahi in Leadership Lab is fostering young Pasifika to create a safe space to explore their identity and intersectionality as we try to navigate who we are in the spaces that we’re currently in. I also represent young people on several governing boards, advocating for the voices of our young people.
