Tayla is a facilitator, advocate, project manager, mentor and leader

Tayla Taylor is a Kaiwhakamana (Advocate) at VOYCE Whakarongo Mai, the independent advocacy agency for care-experienced tamariki and rangatahi. Tayla advocates for care-experienced children and young people. Supporting pēpi, tamariki and rangatahi to understand decision-making about them, express their views, get the information they need and connect with others who are care-experienced.

Developing a passion for positive youth development and youth participation, Tayla looks for collaborative opportunities to bring young people to the forefront of decision making and leadership opportunities. She has almost 7 years of experience in the youth sector, starting out in youth councils, moving on to spend time working for the Canterbury Youth Workers Collective and youth participation network Youth Voice Canterbury before landing at VOYCE. 

Tayla also likes to take on extra projects that align to her values and strengths including event/project management roles and is particularly interested in youth-friendly spaces and communities helping to develop the ReVision Initiative and Youth Friendly Spaces Audit Tool. Currently Tayla is Project Manager for Leadership Lab’s Puāwai programme and is developing her craft as a CliftonStrengths coach to help others discover their inherent talents. In her spare time Tayla runs The Curve Collective, an online thrift shop focussed on selling plus size items of clothing.
